Here we have a pair of high quality interconnect cables from Studio Connections. The company was founded by Michael Whiteside who in 1980 started work as a recording and technical engineer in studios and whose most notable achievement was the building of three of the main studios at EMI Abbey Road. This experience has been used to build the Black Star cable system which is available in digital, signal, speaker and power cables. Our example of these interconnects are one metre in length, fitted with XLR plugs at both ends and will come with our standard warranty. £2400 new...

Studio Connections Says
Black Star cable system excels because, uniquely, it prevents both cable and the system artefacts from getting in the way of great audio.
Black Star interconnect brings these three essentials to the party:
1. Maximised signal propagation speed with phase integrity.
2. Minimise any artefact of its own colouring the sound.
3. Loads equipment impedance for truest audio signal transmission
Black Star Inter-Connect cable excels at providing resonance and artefact-free audio transmission and features incorporated management of source and destination impedance differences. This makes it probably the most open, detailed and exposing interconnect cable. The all results in highly realistic sound with the audio sounding as true to the original recording as you will get.
Black Star encapsulates all the gems of knowledge and science we have gleaned over 35 years working with professionals and brings it to you home.
Interconnect cable has three key objectives:
1 Provide a link with no delay, echo or artefact from loading.
2 Not leave any vestige of artefact of its own in the character of the sound.
3. Minimise any hum loop induction or interference susceptibility
The voltage on one chassis is usually thought to be the same as on another, especially if connected by a cable. What could possibly go wrong???
Actually the voltage on a chassis or ground plane is rarely zero volts, and it is rare for several chassis to be at the same voltage, even when connected together. All chassis and zero voltage circuits in equipment are subject to some kind of induced field, which translates into unwanted stay voltage.
Even if the difference is microvolts, these small differences can cause quite large currents to flow in connecting cables. If this is not controlled, even the smallest stay fields can impose voltages to around interconnect cables as eddy currents, and impose increase the noise level in the system.
Resolution in audio resides in very low signal details; this is the information that conveys characteristics of a sound source and that tells us where exactly a sound is positioned in a sound-scape. Even low noise will smothers this detailed resolution, so for realistic sound with all its original character to shine through, it is necessary to reduce these disturbances to virtually zero.
Disturbance can also emanate from interconnect cables that do not manage impedance matching well. This causes resonance or stray reflections in the cable. To understand this, imagine Newtons Cradle. If all the balls are not identical then he energy doesn’t get neatly transferred from one side to the other.
A key design aspect of accurate cable is to eliminate any resonance in the cable. The changing electrical fields in the wires can get trapped and set up vibrations if not accommodated for in the design.
The Black Star cable range has been developed to work an audio system to its best. Interconnect cable is right at the heart of the system, with eddy current handling earth cables in close proximity to signal carrying conductors. With hum decoupling design, minimal time delay and minimal self-resonance, Black Star signal cable excels and is probably the finest and most accurate sounding signal cable in the world.
This results in your system playing audio as close to the original source as you can possibly get.
To achieve this level of understanding and certainty in our product performance we investigated in home set-ups, live theatre and recording studio to know how power and signal cables interact with equipment and how a cable set up can dramatically alter how realistic a system reproduces sound.
