Frequently Asked Questions

Do you purchase or part-ex hifi equipment?

Whether you prefer a straightforward sale or want to trade up, we offer flexible options including straight purchases and part-exchange for your hi-fi equipment. New equipment is also available through our sister company, www.hifisound.co.uk.

What type of hifi equipment do you purchase?

We focus exclusively on hi-fi stereo equipment: amplifiers, turntables, CD players, streamers, and speakers. Please note that we do not purchase stacked hifi systems, Audio/Visual (AV)/Home Cinema equipment, or television equipment.

Why should I sell to 2ndhandhifi when I can sell it myself?

We are experts in buying and selling second-hand hifi equipment, with a solid reputation built over 20 years of dedicated trading. Our passionate team is committed to sourcing and valuing only the very best equipment.

We understand the challenges of selling hifi, the time sink of auctions, endless questions, low offers, and navigating potential scammers. That's why we offer a fair, expert valuation and a streamlined process to ensure you get the best price without the hassle.

How do trade-ins work?

We've made the trade-in process simple and transparent:

Submit Your Items: Fill out our form with the details of the items you wish to trade in.

Receive a Quote: We will review your submission and contact you with any necessary questions, followed by a final quote.

Arrange Collection: Once you accept the quote, we will schedule a convenient date and time for pickup. Depending on the equipment and its packaging, collection will be arranged via DPD Local or an in-person pickup. There is no charge for collection. Alternatively, you can deliver to our Stockton show room.

Inspection and Testing: After your equipment arrives, we will inspect and fully test it to confirm its condition. This typically takes a few days.

Finalise Payment: We will contact you to confirm the purchase or trade-in and arrange payment immediately via bank transfer.

For Part-Exchanges: If you are part-exchanging for new or used equipment, we will arrange the delivery of your new equipment once your trade-in items have been fully tested. If your desired items need to be ordered, we will provide an estimated delivery timeline.

How much is my used hifi worth?

Individual pricing is used for all equipment, with the final value driven by key criteria: condition, completeness (original packaging and accessories), age, scarcity and service records. We benchmark our offers against recent eBay sold prices.

How to package equipment you are sending in?

To ensure your equipment arrives to use in the same condition you describe, the best way to package is in the original factory packaging (good quality/good condition) and as per the manufacturers instructions. If you have are unsure how to package something let us know and we will be able to advice accordingly.

Can I trade in my hifi equipment in store?

Yes, we'd love for you to visit the shop. This can be a great option if you no longer have the original packaging for your equipment. Please contact us before you visit to ensure someone is available to help.

How long is my quote valid?

All quoted prices are valid for six weeks from the time of issue.

Do I get the same value for cash as I do against a purchase?

Trade in your current equipment for a new product from Hifisound.co.uk and receive a higher offer compared with part-ex against used or a direct sale.

Will you price-match an offer from another retailer?

Other retailers may offer more for your equipment and we will do our best to price-match, however, we price quote fairly and unfortunately a deal can sometimes not be viable.

Do you accept equipment purchases or trade-ins from outside the UK?

Unfortunately, we cannot facilitate trade-ins or purchases of equipment from outside the UK. The challenges associated with complex international transport and the unpredictable nature of import taxes and duties make it logistically unviable.

Can I reverse the deal?

Although we will always attempt to assist if you change your mind, reversing confirmed deals is often difficult. Item processing starts quickly and involves costs, and the item(s) may have already been sold. Please notify us immediately if you have any doubts.
