Meridian 556 Stereo Power Amplifier

Meridian have maintained a strong reputation for their power amplifier technology for over 15 years. Until now, their power amp developments have concentrated on high-transparency low-power models or on the custom amplifiers in their renowned active and digital speaker designs.
The 557 took the Meridian 500 Series into new territory - with 200 W of clean clear power - allowing the option of a complete Meridian front end for large passive speakers for the first time. The 556 uses all we learnt from that outstanding product but delivers it in a package similar to the 505 Mono Amplifier with 100W stereo output.
The Meridian 556 houses two powerful amplifiers in a dual mono construction. The amplifiers are rated at 1 00W into 8 ohms. The overspecified output stage uses 8 high-power transistors. These, combined with a low-noise 800VA toroidal transformer, permit this amplifier to deliver massive currents, ensuring no loss of performance even into loads that dip below 2 ohms. The power delivery of this amplifier makes it ideal for driving difficult loudspeaker loads.
The 556 provides unbalanced inputs as well as twin outputs for bi-wiring.
The topology of 556 is very much in the Meridian tradition. A high-precision fast DC-precise input stage is combined with a fully complementary amplification and output stage. Also, the 556 uses Meridian's well tried self-adjusting bias and error-correction output topology.
As you may expect, the 556 is fully protected against dc and thermal overload.

Carriers

We despatch the bulk of our UK mainland items on a 24 hour service.  Non-Mainland locations – Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, the Scilly Isles, the Scottish highlands and Islands, the Channel Islands and Northern Ireland may take a day or so longer. Smaller items are delivered using Royal Mail 24 or special delivery. Larger items are delivered using a courier service such as UPS and occasionally by a Pallet service.
