The Meridian 505 Mono Power Amplifier represents the finest expression of Meridian amplifier technology. By dedicating a complete power supply to each channel of the system it follows in the practice of the best products worldwide. This ensures the presentation of spatiality, dynamics and clarity that is sacrificed in amplifiers that have three or more channels sharing a single power source.
The 557 took the Meridian 500 Series into new territory - with 200W of clean clear power - allowing the option of a complete Meridian front end for large passive speakers for the first time. The 505 matches perfectly with the 557 for centre-channel applications; or for the complete theatre approach 505s can be used in multiples.
Traditional purist hi fi concepts of separate power amplifiers for clarity and response still hold true today in both the two and multi-channel worlds. The 505 has been designed for both applications, taking each in its stride.
The Meridian 505 can be used with the 502, 501, 541 or 562 (with DAC option) preamps, or with the 565 DSP Surround Processor. The Meridian 505 houses one powerful amplifier in a mono construction. The amplifier is rated at 160W into 8 ohms. The over-specified output stage uses 6 high-power transistors. These, combined with a massive low-noise 800VA toroidal transformer, permit this amplifier to deliver currents in excess of 25A, ensuring no loss of performance even into loads that dip below 2 ohms. The massive power delivery of this amplifier makes it ideal for driving difficult loudspeaker loads.
The 505 provides balanced and unbalanced inputs as well as twin outputs for bi-wiring.
The topology of 505 is very much in the Meridian tradition. A high-precision fast DC-precise input stage is combined with a fully complementary amplification and output stage. Also, the 505 uses Meridian’s well-tried self-adjusting bias and error-correction output topology, in a new low feedback design.
As you may expect, the 505 is fully protected against dc and thermal overload.

Carriers

We despatch the bulk of our UK mainland items on a 24 hour service.  Non-Mainland locations – Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, the Scilly Isles, the Scottish highlands and Islands, the Channel Islands and Northern Ireland may take a day or so longer. Smaller items are delivered using Royal Mail 24 or special delivery. Larger items are delivered using a courier service such as UPS and occasionally by a Pallet service.
