Packaging & Accessories:
Linn LP12 Turntable - Black Gloss w/ Funk Firm Vector Link Upgrade / Ittok Tonearm / Dynavector Karat 17D3 Cartridge is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Here we have an example of the classic Linn Sondek LP12 Turntable that comes complete with an Ittok Tonearm, Funk Firm Vector Link Upgrade & Dynavector Karat D17D3 Cartridge.
The LP12 is one of the oldest and most important audio components there is, and the fact that it still in production today, albeit with a few modifications along the way, says something about that original design. With well over 100,000 units produced in its over 50-year history it has become something of a legend to many audiophiles across the world.
Our unit is in a Black finish and comes in fair condition, noting some marking to the sides of the plinth - please refer to photographs. It will be supplied in original factory packaging along with our regular warranty, noting this does not cover the fitted Dynavector cartridge as we have no knowledge of its exact amount of use and wear. Information with regard to the Funk Firm Vector Upgrade is scarce but American magazine Stereophile did a review which is linked to in the “Reviews” section.

Linn Sondek LP12 Turntable
Linn Products have always stated that the turntable is the most important part of a high fidelity system. If you don’t get a good signal off the record then it doesn’t matter how good the rest of your system is, the sound will be bad. When upgrading your system there is a strict hierarchy to observe. After the turntable, the next most important component is the arm, followed by the cartridge. Once the turntable system has been optimised, the next component to choose is the amplifier. Finally, the last link in the chain is the loudspeaker
The Linn Sondek LP12 reference transcription turntable has been setting the standards by which others are judged for over 30 years.
Each component of the Sondek LP12 has been painstakingly developed to optimise information retrieval, because information lost at the source is lost forever, regardless of the amplifier or loudspeaker quality. Linn is involved in every stage of the record and playback process. We can therefore check the signal at each step of the hi-fi chain, which is why we know what makes the Sondek LP12 a very special turntable: its perfect speed accuracy at 33rpm and 45rpm, its immunity against acoustical feedback, its low noise main bearing with mirror finish, and our legendary precision manufacturing, all of which ensure the pitch accurate faithful reproduction of the original source.

With the Linn Ittok LVII tonearm the brief was to design an arm that performs to the same standard as the Linn Sondek LP12 turntable. The result is a pick-up arm which has been acknowledged as a significant advance in disc playing equipment.
The Linn Ittok LVII was designed with several performance features in mind. First, stability. It is a coherent mechanical system designed to maintain a precise relationship between the cartridge and turntable. This is due in part to a bearing system that minimises intermittent or continuous loss of dynamic accuracy. Second, simplicity. Dials for both tracking weight and bias force enable easy and highly accurate adjustment, making the Ittok simple to install and convenient to use.
The Ittok is particularly suitable for use with the Linn Asak DC-2100K moving coil cartridge and enables the full performance potential of this cartridge to be realised.
The Ittok is designed not to degrade with use or require continuous adjustment. In addition, it is engineered to cope with the most difficult cartridges now available and to anticipate future cartridge development.
Linn Products have always insisted on direct A-8 comparisons on hi-fi equipment and tone arms are no exception. Compare the Ittok with other tone arms and audition it with different cartridges.
Although designed with the Linn Sondek LP12 turntable in mind. the Ittok is suitable for use with most high quality turntables.
Dynavector KARAT-17D3 Cartridge
The new 17D3 Karat Diamond is the first cartridge built using 'dispersion' theory. Its Micro-Ridge stylus and very short (1.7 mm) solid diamond cantilever give a huge reduction in 'frequency dispersion', unmatched dynamics and a high frequency extension all the way up to 100 kHz. The latest patented magnet circuit design increases the output to 0.3mV with crystal clear mid-range and treble even during the largest symphonic crescendos.
The main change to the new Dynavector 17D3 is an improvement in the design of the front yoke. This appears, on the surface, to be a small difference yet contributes to a greatly improved overall performance justifying a model number change.
The new yoke improves focus in the magnetic circuit and in combination with the flux damping mechanism and softened magnetism (patent) gives accurate sonic qualities leading to a very natural sound. The change has also enabled a useful increase in output to 0.3 mV.
The Dynavector Karat is notable for its gemstone cantilever. This 1.7 mm long by 0.25 mm diameter solid diamond cantilever has its 0.07 square mm stylus mounting hole precision cut by laser. The Micro Ridge Stylus of 0.07 square mm nude diamond is securely and accurately bonded to the cantilever.
The armature of 0.9 mm square and 0.4 mm thick is much smaller than normal, upon which are wound 60 turns per channel of 12 micron fine wire.
