Description
Here we have a classic and well regarded compact disc player from American company Krell. First introduced in the late nineties the Krell KAV-300CD was highly rated by the Hi-Fi press for its sound quality. Our unit comes in good fully working condition, with a couple of very minor blemishes – please see photographs. It will be professionally packaged, comes with our standard three month warranty.
Krell Said….
Since its founding in 1980, Krell has changed the world’s standards for audio performance not once, but with every new design. With the KAV-300CD, Krell has again redefined expectations for performance and value in high-end Compact Disc Players.
Following in the footsteps of the breakthrough KAV-300i integrated amplifier, the KAV-300CD embodies the uncompromising standards of Krell sound quality, build quality, longevity, and innovation. Its elegant exterior clothes a wealth of sonic performance and operational flexibility which will make it the indispensable CD Player for serious music lovers.
For Krell, quality isn’t the main thing, it’s the only thing. However, unlike many other Krell products, the KAV-300CD was not meant to be a cost-no-object product. It had to complement other Krell KAV products in quality and value. Krell met this challenge with a concentration on absolute value—on delivering traditional Krell sonic quality using the most rational, elegant, and effective circuitry.
The KAV-300CD’s transport combines the drive motor and full-size disc clamp in a single assembly. The motor drives the clamp and the disc as a single unit for outstanding rotational accuracy, while eliminating error-producing wobble. The transport’s moulded chassis parts are made of a special high-molecular material (polyphenylene oxide) and elastomeric shock-mounts are tuned to eliminate mechanical and acoustic disturbances. The integrated system design of transport and servo electronics deliver exceptional tracking and focus accuracy, regardless of environmental or disc characteristics.
Perhaps the best argument for a well-designed single-chassis CD player is found in the KAV300CD’s high-stability, low-jitter master clock, which controls the transport electronics and digital audio circuitry. The high precision data stream controlled by this stable clock flows to the Pacific Microsonics digital filter/HDCD® decoder, where ultra-high signal resolution is maintained in the digital domain. This circuitry outputs 20-bit digital data to each channel’s Burr-Brown PCM-1702K Digital-to-Analog Converter, a premium-grade part.
This circuitry is at the heart of the Krell sonic signature. The wide-bandwidth analogue output from each DAC is sent to an exclusive Krell Current Mode Gain™ amplifier. This circuitry employs discrete bipolar transistors, allowing optimization for high-speed, current domain operation. All analogue circuitry runs in Class A and is direct coupled to assure superior low frequency performance. The result is very low distortion and exceptionally wide bandwidth with minimal negative feedback. Used for the current-to-voltage conversion and analogue outputs, this circuitry maintains the low noise and wide bandwidth characteristics needed to preserve the fidelity of decoded signals, including HDCD. Sonically, the KAV-300CD opens the perceptual doors to a complete revelation of the musical performance.
This important stage makes the linear operation of the digital and analogue circuits possible. A high-current toroidal transformer offers superb regulation and extremely quiet electrical operation. Superior line filtering keeps electronic noise from entering or leaving the KAV-300CD. Stiff regulator circuits assure stable power delivery to each section while providing high circuit-to-circuit isolation, regardless of external or internal conditions.
The KAV-300CD employs a front-loading CD drawer mechanism that allows it to be stacked with other components. It comes with a remote control and remote connectors on the rear panel for on/off switching controlled by a 12VDC trigger. In addition, there is an input for RC-5 baseband signals, providing seamless integration into sophisticated home theatres or high quality whole-house systems. Thoughtful touches include the ability to turn off the display to prevent distraction in darkened listening rooms. The KAV-300CD is a world-class CD Player designed and built in the Krell tradition of engineering excellence, innovation, and outstanding build quality, a tradition which has again and again gone beyond conventional understanding to produce electronic components renowned as the finest in the world.
