wrong with a piece of equipment you have bought from us within the warranty period,

Every item we sell over £100 comes with a six month warranty. Every item under
£100 comes with a three-month warranty. Ex-display items carry the balance of the
original manufacturer's warranty, with the details noted clearly on each individual

is. Most private sellers offer nothing. Most marketplace listings come with a
vague assurance that the item was working when it left, and that is it.
Six months of covered parts and labour is a completely different proposition.

Think about what you are actually buying when you choose a pre-owned amplifier or
a second hand turntable. You are buying an item that has been used, possibly for
several years, by someone else. Even well made equipment from brands like Linn,
Cyrus or Musical Fidelity can develop issues over time. Capacitors age. Switches
get intermittent. Tonearm bearings wear. These things happen, and they are nobody's
fault.
What matters is what happens next.

does not include consumable items like valves and cartridges. These are wear items
by nature. A phono cartridge, for example, has a finite stylus life regardless of
how carefully it is used. A valve amplifier's tubes will eventually need replacing.
That is true whether the equipment is new or pre-owned, and it is not something a
warranty can sensibly cover.
The warranty is also non-transferable. It applies to the original buyer and the
original purchase. That keeps our prices where they are, so we can offer real
