Stirling LS3/5A V3.2 Standmount Speakers - Walnut is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Here we have a pair of the Iconic BBC LS3/5A loudspeakers. The origins of this speaker date back to the mid 1970’s when the BBC first put forward their requirements for a monitor for the assessment of outside broadcasts. Licences for the production of the speaker were awarded to a number of companies with the aim of producing a consistency of sound whoever the manufacturer was. Stirling Broadcast had a history of servicing and repairing the model and after acting as resellers of (NOS) Rogers units, gained a licence to produce the drive units and reintroduced the model. Our examples of the 3.2 variant are in very good condition and supplied in original factory packaging along with our standard warranty.

The roots of Stirling Broadcast are in the resale of Used, Ex-Demo and End-Of-Line Broadcast equipment, later expanding into the manufacture of a range of furniture suitable for professional broadcast and radio studios.
After a long history of repairing and servicing LS3/5a's from within both the professional and amateur arenas, we became involved in the manufacture of LS3/5a loudspeakers after purchasing and reselling the bankrupt Rogers stock as NOS.
Once an LS3/5a License had been obtained from the BBC, we commissioned the manufacture of new T27 and B110 drive units from KEF and reintroduced the LS3/5a to the market, to enthusiastic reception.
Shortly afterwards we began a path of innovation in the LS3/5a world by introducing higher quality crossovers and thin-walled, screw-back cabinets modelled after the prototype LS3/5a cabinets and as seen on the 001/002 pair demonstrated at the HiFi News shows of 2001 and 2002.
Following problems and uncertainties with the continuing supply of T27 and B110 drive units we began our relationship with the esteemed loudspeaker designed Derek Hughes, commissioning him to design a 'version 2' of our LS3/5a.
Derek utilised specially prepared SEAS and ScanSpeak drive units with high grade crossovers that accurately mimic the response characteristics of the original versions.
This version retained the LS3/5a License from the British Broadcasting Corporation and is suitable as a drop in replacement for any working pair of LS3/5as.
Several professional broadcast establishments deployed pairs of LS3/5a V2's into production environments.
In 2019 we added a V3 version of our LS3/5a loudspeaker, replacing the inductors with larger air-cored inductors to justify the new moniker “Ultra Low Distortion”.
And in 2024 we introduced a final refinement of our LS3/5a, the V3.2. This model features a hand-built crossover using even higher quality components to further increase the levels of transparency and detail.
In 2024 Doug Stirling made the decision to retire due to health reasons. With help from a former customer and close friends a direct sales model was adopted with subsequent reductions to pricing, and selling began. Once the final stock of V3s were exhausted Derek Hughes was again commissioned to design a new V3 grade crossover that could be used to upgrade the remaining V2 stock to V3 standard. The large order quantities required precluded the use of the original V3 crossover.
The new V3.2 crossovers are hand built by Derek Hughes Audio Services and use high-quality Jantzen Cross Cap capacitors and Air Core inductors. Whereas the brief was for a V3 grade crossover this new crossover exhibits slightly improved performance with increased transparency and detail combined with a greater sense of balance, with the degree of improvement varying according to amplification.
