Naim SuperCap DR Power Supply

The SuperCap 2 power supply is a fantastic addition to the Naim Hi-Fi range. The importance of power supplies has been close to the heart of Naim philosophy for over twenty years.
Although certain Naim amplifiers provide a very adequate power supply to the partnering pre-amplifier, the use of a separate Naim ultra-low noise power supply brings substantially improved musicality to the whole system. Simply being separate from the amplifiers ensures correct earthing and hum-free operation, while the large toroidal transformer and generous high quality smoothing capacitors provide exceptional dynamic stability.
Each of the multiple power outputs use specially selected regulators for optimum performance. The SuperCap can be used to power all of the Naim pre-amplifiers (except the NAC 552), phono stages and active crossovers and is the only choice for supplying power to the NAC 252 pre-amplifier.
The addition of anti-vibration, resonance-controlling feet compliment the elegant new cast and extruded anti-magnetic chassis to protect the sensitive internal components from resonance and microphonic vibration.
The audible benefits from adding a SuperCap are fundamental to the music: improving timing, dynamic range, clarity and order. Particularly complex music becomes both easier to understand and listen to. Inclusion of a SuperCap offers the additional benefit of allowing the pre-amplifier to be left switched on constantly, independently of the power amplifier, keeping the unit’s complex circuitry fully stabilised at all times.

Since its introduction, and in keeping with an on-going commitment to the sustainability of Naim hi-fi, we have offered upgrades to the DR spec from previous, non-DR versions of Classic and 500 Series products.

Overview...

Naim has long recognised the importance of power supplies to sound quality and paid meticulous attention to optimising power supply design in its products. The addition of outboard power supplies additionally offers an established upgrade path for many Naim products, enhancing sound quality by improving the supplies themselves, by removing the electromagnetic field of the transformer and interference generated by the rectifier diodes, and by eliminating transformer vibration from the product case, so it cannot affect the circuitry. Voltage regulators are widely deployed – sometimes in series for enhanced performance – to ensure that our audio and digital circuits operate with a stable, low noise supply voltage, thereby maximising their performance.
A voltage regulator is an electronic device designed to maintain a constant DC output voltage regardless of fluctuations in its supply voltage and variations in current draw from its output. An ideal voltage regulator would add zero noise and have zero output impedance – but all practical voltage regulators generate finite output noise and show some transient variation in output voltage if current demand changes suddenly. In developing the Naim Discrete Regulator we have created a discrete-component regulator that betters industry standard monolithic voltage regulators in these respects and, even more importantly, has had its design and component selection refined in the listening room to deliver maximised sound quality from Naim’s audio circuits.

Standard shipping to the UK Mainland (excludes Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands) is free, except where specifically indicated. Carriers

We despatch the bulk of our UK mainland items on a 24 hour service.  Non-Mainland locations – Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, the Scilly Isles, the Scottish highlands and Islands, the Channel Islands and Northern Ireland may take a day or so longer. Smaller items are delivered using Royal Mail 24 or special delivery. Larger items are delivered using a courier service such as UPS and occasionally by a Pallet service.
