If you do not get a good signal from the record then the potential of the rest of your system will never be realised, as neither the amplifier nor speakers can improve the quality of the signal they receive. The Linn Axis is made to the highest engineering standards and brings a new level of performance to turntables in its price range.\u003cbr\u003e\nThe Axis is a precision built, twin speed (33.3 rpm and 45 rpm) transcription turntable. It is mounted in a black veneered medite plinth, with a dark grey top-board and equipped with a moulded, hinged dustcover.\u003cbr\u003e\nPlatter: 12” diameter (305 mm) aluminium diecast and accurately machined on all matching and visible surfaces. Weight approximately 1.5 kg. The platter is supplied with a felt mat.\u003cbr\u003e\nBearing: Single point system running in an oil bath. The thrust pad which must support the weight of the platter on a single point is top grade steel, machined, hardened, ground and lapped to a mirror finish.\u003cbr\u003e\nMotor: 24-pole precision synchronous low noise, high torque motor. Fully shielded and mechanically isolated from the main bearing assembly by resilient mounting and a damped, uniquely designed suspension system.\u003cbr\u003e\nSpeeds: 33.3 rpm and 45 rpm. Speed accuracy = 0.1%\u003cbr\u003e\nMotor Power Supply: Linn-designed 2-speed electronic ‘Class A’ power supply incorporating a stall detect circuit. This monitors the load on the motor from start-up and reduced the power supply to the motor once the correct speed has been achieved. It will also increase the power to the motor as\u003cbr\u003e\nrequired. When this happens the relevant LED on the switch will brighten to show increased power, and dim once power is reduced. The Basik arms are intended to provide substantially better performance than has heretofore been available in a moderately priced tonearm, and will outperform arms which are vastly more expensive. They are the obvious choice for use on the Linn Sondek turntable, where monetary or other considerations preclude the use of the Ittok. They mount on the same armboard template as the Ittok, making a later upgrade extremely easy. They are also compatible with most transcription turntables, but it is well to remember that the turntable is by far the most important component. In our experience a Linn Basik tonearm with its original cartridge mounted on a Linn Sondek turntable will outperform a Linn Ittok tonearm with an Asak cartridge, mounted on any other turntable.\u003cbr\u003e\nThe Basik arms incorporate full gimbal ball bearings, and a large diameter straight arm tube. The Basik Plus utilizes a non-detachable headshell. The Basik LV-X incorporates a special detachable headshell which uses a C-clamping arrangement. This approach allows the headshell junction to be almost as rigid as a non-detachable type, at the cost of a slight increase of the effective mass of the arm.\u003cbr\u003e\nThe Basik Arms are suitable for use with a wide range of magnetic cartridges.
