Sonus faber Say….
Italian design and creativity can stand proud once again with the naturalness of those who have nothing to prove and interpret life taking only the best that it can give.
These are the feelings that Sonus faber wishes to evoke by restyling the Homage line, the company’s most iconic collection which has been completely revamped in keeping with its rich past and precious legacy. Welcome Homage Tradition!
A long design effort, numerous tests and a certainty: a well-reproduced sound must reach new levels of acoustic performance and excellence. And to reach this goal, we started from our roots at our facilities in Arcugnano, Italy.
The result is the new Homage Tradition collection which is both a restyling and a new development of the speakers that made the history of the company.
The collection features four elements: Amati, Guarneri, Vox and the newcomer Serafino, a middle range floor speaker that complements a family with a huge appeal and a surprising power to be explored.
Once again, the name is taken from the history of Italian violin-making: Santo Serafino was a famous yet mysterious master who trained at the workshop of Nicolò Amati who worked in Venice in the first half of the 18th century and was specialised in making sturdy yet incredibly delicate violins.
The new Homage Tradition collection inherits the precious teachings of the masters of Italian violin-making and the experience gained in 20 years of design and development of the Homage line. This collection becomes the ambassador of Italian design and of the rich tradition of Arcugnano with a classic and slightly retro approach.
Far from being a vintage reproduction in itself, the Homage Tradition collection is surprisingly innovative right from the first glance.
The now classic violin shape created with the very first Guarneri Homage in 1993 and which has now become the hallmark of Sonus faber has been revisited and taken to new heights by embodying both the classic lines of the Homage collection and those of the Lilium cabinet, thus giving larger volumes to the speakers of this collection, especially on the back. This evolution allows the cabinet to better control internal resonance.
The world of ancient shipyards and the centuries-old tradition of Italy’s shipwrights are the essence of the inspiration of the key lines of the design of the Homage Tradition collection.
The bond between Sonus faber’s style and the elegant and timeless design of the most famous Italian motor-boats which have become international icons of Italy and of its master craftsmen is clearly visible in the values, as well as in the masterly use and working of the wood, the finest and most versatile of all raw materials.
The essence of the walnut wood is preserved in the traditional “Red” finish with brushed black aluminium and the leather of the black front in line with the finish of the flagship models Aida, Lilium and Il Cremonese.
The distinctive feature of the design of the new Homage Tradition collection is the new layout of the top whose main accent is, once again, wood with the same finish of the sides.
All the speakers of the Homage Tradition collection are the fruit of painstaking electro-acoustic research. The patents and technological solutions that have been developed from the Sonus faber to Aida and implemented and adapted with Lilium, Il Cremonese and the Olympica collection are once again applied and taken to even greater heights, adapting them to the needs of these new projects.
The most visible and typical element of the novelties of the new collection is the back panel in extruded aluminium, the external part of the “Stealth Ultraflex” system characterised by a laminated finish derived directly from the solution adopted in the Olympica collection.
The outline of this part acts as a vent favouring the flow of air through the duct while controlling its speed and reducing any turbulence and hence distortion. The back too is part of the “Exoskeleton” system complete with “Damp shelves”, namely two elements obtained from solid aluminium plates by turning. They act as vibration collectors and help to eliminate spurious sounds that can contaminate the transmission of the sound message.
The mechanical decoupling of the cabinet from the support surface is taken in part from Il Cremonese and in part from previous experiences with Aida and Lilium, as well as the previous Homage collection.
Guarneri and Serafino feature the so-called “Silent Spikes” from Il Cremonese, namely the coaxial metal/elastomer/metal spikes, which are an embodiment of the classic patented “Z.V.T.” (Zero Vibration Transmission) system with much smaller dimensions.
The speakers of the Homage Tradition collection are derived directly from Il Cremonese and have been further developed to create an exclusive and unique design.
Once again, the speakers are made by Europe’s best and most famous manufacturers, while the key finishing work is done by hand at Sonus faber before fitting the transducers into the cabinet.
The tuning of each set of speakers is done personally by the designer, making each pair exclusive, just like a real musical instrument made by the hands of a skilled master craftsman.
