When it comes to bass and subwoofers there is one specialist name that tends to standout above the rest. British company REL only build subs – nothing else! They don’t want to be a “Jack of all Trades” their aim is to be “The Master of One!”. Here we have an example of the highly regarded T/5i in good condition with some very light surface wear, that will be supplied in original factory packaging and comes with manual, mains cable, sub cable, plus our usual 3 month warranty.

Smaller does not mean lesser. We designed the compact T/5i to give smaller sized spaces and systems equal quality sound, so while scale may change the performance stays the same.
Simplicity is its own reward and T/5i reduces the classic cubic sub to its bare essence. A single, high quality AlloyFibre™ composite driver and down firing orientation produces maximum coupling with the floor and eliminates the need for a grille. T/5i is the purest expression of REL.
When we upgraded our drivers, we were forced to redesign outward. The lovely cabinets grew over its predecessor due to thicker cabinet walls and improved bracing. Why? Because the additional speed and impact of the new drivers requires greater control, or the benefits can be lost before they get to the listener.
We began by updating our classic 8” bass engine to reduce mass, while greatly increasing stiffness. This improvement led to upgrading cabinet dimensions and wall thickness to better control the deep bass. Additional upgrades extended even into the design of our feet, resulting in greater speed and solidity to the presentation of sound.
REL’s electronics are the brains and power behind our success. Serie Ti uses the same Class A/B power amplifier sections with large, high current power supplies, precision-wound transformers and an amazing reliability record that has powered some 100,000 RELs. Arrow™ is REL’s latest generation of zero compression wireless. Super-fast delivery of both High Level Bass and .1/ LFE ensures the rich, natural warmth that only RELs can deliver. With a throw distance of some 45’(13.7M) Arrow permits flexible placement without sacrificing sound quality.
REL products are not traditional subwoofers, but true Sub-Bass Systems. A REL is designed to augment the performance of “full range” speaker systems in order to provide, in certain cases, linear response below 15 Hz. Therefore, for the moment, please set aside everything you’ve been taught about subwoofers and how they are integrated into a stereo or home cinema system. REL Sub-Bass Systems set-up and positioning differs from conventional subwoofers. A REL will take advantage of physics and room acoustics to provide deep pressurization as no traditional subwoofer can. It is important that you bring to the set-up process a willingness to do things a little differently in order to obtain these superior results. The end result of your labours will be an utterly seamless integration of true deep bass to a sound system, regardless of the main speakers’ low bass capability.
The Series T/5i model uses an unusual method of bass loading. It is designed to operate below normal system resonance. This has been achieved without the normal form of bass boost or electronic equalization. Instead of a constantly increasing bass equalization response, we simply ensure there is sufficient amplifier gain to drive the speaker unit to its maximum excursion level at whatever the designated lowest operating frequency is, and then cut the bass at a controlled rate of 12dB per octave above this frequency. Although this may at first seem identical to boosting the bass, it is actually quite different and ensures that the timing of transients is far improved compared to the usual bass equalization used. Bass will sound cleaner and faster.
The amplifier is fully DC coupled to avoid phase shifts and compromises in its low end performance. It is inherently stable and will retain its characteristics over very long periods of time – important in a unit designed for an exceptionally long working life. These amplifiers are designed to withstand reasonable abuse and overloads.
We believe that the importance of the electronics, cabinet and drivers being designed to work in harmony is paramount. This approach allows the Series T/5i Sub-Bass System to achieve the highest possible level of fidelity.
