Pioneer PL-112D Turntable

Here we have a vintage turntable from Japanese company Pioneer. Very well regarded in its time the PL-112D is still revered by those in the know for its performance against similarly priced alternatives. It comes in good condition for its age with a broken arm rest clip, a few cosmetic blemishes and some general wear. It will be supplied professionally packaged within its original outer box (no inner). Whats it worth? We’ll let you decide…

To be fair, we weren’t the only ones who considered the Pioneer PL-12D was probably the best value for money you were ever likely to expect. The experts all concurred. And the PL-12D became something of a legend.
But we’ve been proved wrong. All of us. Now there is a turntable offering even better value for money. The PL-112D. Made, not surprisingly, by Pioneer.
Like its predecessor, the 112D features an S-shaped tone-arm for precision tracking capability and improved tonal quality. But unlike the 12D, both arm and platter are isolated from the main plinth. So you don’t have to hold your breath when operating the cueing device. This also contributes to some impressive performance characteristics.
Because the PL-112D combines practicality with style. Even the walnut grain cabinet is specially designed to reduce external vibrations. So it’s beautiful. But functional. After all, you don’t beat a turntable like the 12D just by looking good.
Stable rotation of the 30 cm diecast aluminium alloy platter is maintained by the carefully engineered 4-pole synchronous motor and belt drive system. The smooth running of the motor is unaffected by fluctuations in line voltage and load, while even the slightest vibrations from the motor are absorbed by the polyurethane belt. High performance is exemplified by the 0.07% (WRMS) wow and flutter, and 63 dB (DIN B) signal to noise ratio.
The tonearm gimbal incorporates high precision angular contact bearings, whose tow vibration and friction ensure high sensitivity together with long term reliability. Anti­skating and lateral balance controls are included for optimum performance with high compliance cartridges and light tracking forces, and the direct readout of the tracking force is especially convenient when replacing the cartridge.
A host of additional features enhance the convenience and performance of the PL-112D. Among these are a lightweight, high rigidity aluminium headshell, low capacitance output cord, free stop dust cover hinges that allow easy installation and removal, and an oil-damped tonearm elevation mechanism to protect valuable records and stylus. The interior of the cabinet is lined with aluminium foil to screen out external electrical noise which is often picked up from other household appliances, while motor and external vibrations are also isolated by the vibration-absorbing spring suspension design.
The baseplate is made from mineral solid, a new high density material which combines excellent acoustic absorption properties to prevent resonance with high strength and attractive finish. In addition the elegant wood grain finish of the cabinet ideally matches the high quality engineering of the PL-112D.
