Here we have something a little bit different – a rare vintage CRT television from Philips. The Discoverer was designed to celebrate NASA’s first space shuttle launch in 1981 and closely resembled an astronauts space helmet complete with a plexiglass visor that can be raised or lowered over the screen. Our example is in good working condition bearing in mind its age and will be supplied suitably packaged.
Philips Said….
Philips started working on television technology around 1925, but it wasn’t until the 1930s that a range of small screen televisions were introduced.
The Philips Discoverer TV was a popular feature in boys’ bedrooms in the 1980s. Designed to look like a space helmet, the television incorporates an anti-glare pull-down visor. Wheels at the back made it easy to position.
