KEF Reference Series LS3/5A Limited Edition 35th Anniversary Standmount Speakers – Black

Here we have a pair of rare and highly sought after BBC LS3/5A loudspeakers. There is a long history behind the LS3/5A some of which is mentioned below, but to keep things simple ours are a pair built by KEF in the 1990’s. They are Limited Edition 35th Anniversary Model speakers, of which just 500 pairs were made. They are in very good condition, and come in original factory packaging along with grilles, manual, certificate of authenticity plus of course our standard three month warranty.
KEF Say….
This is one of the most famous small monitoring loudspeakers ever made. Since its introduction over 20 years ago, KEF has manufactured the drive units for every LS3/5A ever built.
In 1993, one of the original licensees ceased manufacture of the LS3/5A. Devotees of this wonderful little loudspeaker, concerned for its future, pressed for an all KEF version to ensure ongoing production.
KEF duly obtained a licence from the BBC and is proud to bring you this product as a celebration of its long history of association with one of the world’s finest loudspeakers.
The LS3/5A was designed by the BBC as an outside broadcast monitor speaker. This ultra compact system used the KEF B110 and T27 bass and treble units, a complex crossover network, and an enclosure of which the construction was specified very carefully to minimize colouration of the sound by panel vibrations. Licenses were offered to companies willing to manufacture these for the BBC and, in 1975, Rogers was the first to take up the opportunity.
Such was the reaction amongst audiophiles that the LS3/5A developed a strong reputation for use in high quality domestic audio systems.
