Fostex Say….
New generation CD-R/R/RW master recorder supporting up to 24-bit/96 kHz and enhanced playback functions.
Not only will the new Fostex CR500 professionally master stereo recordings to CD-R/RW, it also offers the world’s first direct Broadcast WAV recording to a UDF formatted disc at up to 24-bit/96 kHz resolution.
This means, among other things, easy transport to Pro Tools® and other computer-based professional editing environments without audio ripping.
And as a ‘pro’ mastering machine you get balanced XLR connections, easy track naming via a USB keyboard, LED meters. Plus instant play, fader start, 10 memory points / program play memories per disc and more.
CD-mastering, live recording, BWF file creation, stage, event and broadcast playback. – The new Fostex CR500.
Equipped with 24-bit quality at up to 96 kHz and high precision laser technology you would expect the CR500 to deliver excellent quality recordings, and you would be right. Recording to standard recordable data CDs from a variety of analogue and digital inputs, the CR500 generates discs of exceptional accuracy and integrity.
But that’s not the whole story, because the CR500 is the world’s first professional machine to offer direct BWF (Broadcasting WAV format) recording/generation to UDF formatted CD-R/RWs at up to 24-bit/96 kHz resolution.
And this is a big deal, as these discs can be recognised by PC editing systems directly (available on Windows XP only). No more time-wasting with real-time audio ripping, just simple ‘cut & paste’. In addition, you get multi-record settings (16-bit/44.1 kHz and 48 kHz plus 24-bit/44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz), easy track naming and simple transport controls via an ‘off the shelf’ USB keyboard and the kind of attention to detail you would expect from a professional master recorder designed by Fostex.
The CR500 is also perfectly equipped for today’s professional playback environments. Equally at home in the conference centre, theatre, stadium or broadcast studio, it bristles with thoughtful features. For example, you can program 10 memory points per disc with a 100 disc memory, there’s instant play for event applications, fader start for broadcast use, power-on play for installations and a flexible array of balanced and unbalanced digital and analogue outputs.
Features:
Direct recording in CD-DA and BWF (Broadcast Wave Format) to CD-R/RW.
When recording in BWF, 44.1/48 kHz (16bit) or 44.1/48/88.2/96 kHz (24bit) can be selected.
(*Different FS/bit cannot be mixed on a single CD.)
In addition to CD-DA and UDF, ISO9660 (playback only) format is also supported.
Mounting of CDs recorded in UDF format/BWF is supported only on Windows XP and Mac OSX 10.5.1 or later.
Analog inputs and outputs include XLR (balanced / +4dBu) and RCA pins (unbalanced / -10dBV).
Digital input/output supports AES/EBU and S/P DIF.
10 memory points can be registered for each CD (programs and CUE points for 100 CDs are automatically recorded in the main unit’s memory.
When a recorded disc is reinserted, the memory information is automatically reproduced.
Up to 99 tracks can be programmed for playback.
Memory play (instant start) is possible using the 10 keys on the main unit and the USB keyboard (10 keys).
Some USB10KEYs can also send a “RETURN” signal when the “ENTER” key is pressed, but this cannot be used with the CR500. If you are not sure about the specification of your USB10KEY, please contact your dealer or the manufacturer.
The digital scrubber with waveform display is used to register memory points for precise operation.
Shock proof function to prevent sound skipping during recording and playback.
POWER ON PLAY function is convenient for equipment sound.
Equipped with a GPI terminal for fader start. PLAY/STOP control is possible from a mixer equipped with a fader start terminal.
USB keyboard for file name editing, various settings, and transport control.
Built-in real-time clock and date can be set to file name.
A 132 x 64 dot LCD with backlight is convenient for checking file information and various setting information.
Equipped with an 18-point LED level meter with excellent visibility.
This product is not a CD duplicator. It does not have the ability to duplicate CD-DA using digital signals. *CR500’s write format is track-at-once. Please note that this product cannot produce CDs for press mastering. Index/track numbers cannot be updated during recording.
In CD-DA recording, pressing the SHIFT key + RECORD key during recording will advance the track number.
Note: Automatic track number increment is not possible. When played back on a CD player other than CR500, a silent interval of about 100 msec. occurs between tracks; when played back on CR500, the tracks are played back continuously without a silent interval.
