Focal Say….
Compact, distinguished and captivating, Diablo Utopia is the ultimate vision of the reference bookshelf loudspeaker, in the purest Focal’s tradition. Largely inspired from the Grande Utopia EM, it sets new milestones in the bass thanks to its new patented 16.5cm Power Flower, with almost no saturation, and a driver integrated resonator. Fixed on a dedicated stand, Diablo Utopia enchants the midrange and the treble with its definition, demonizes the bass with a density and a power handling never reached so far.
Diablo Utopia: devilish…
Descendant of the Micro Utopia Be’s heritage, Diablo Utopia pushes back the limits we know under the appearance of a miniature Grande Utopia, from which she takes back the main technologies. The main innovation concerns the new 16.5 cm Power Flower with W cone, equipped with a new generation spider/surround couple. The spider “with controlled linearity break” and the surround, “progressive damping” type, collectively used, aim at gathering 2 contradictory goals: limit to the maximum the mechanical resistance opposed to the cone moving, to obtain maximum dynamics and very high definition, control the cone moving at the limit of excursion to avoid brutal distortions. Changing the shapes and the materials at the same time, the moving cone liberty is total, then progressively reduced, according to specified laws, to obtain a smooth mechanical clipping, not ear-splitting. This system that permits Diablo Utopia to support high power without failing is patented under the name LDC (Low Dynamic Compression).
Another characteristic of Diablo is the separate tweeter cabinet, used here as a Helmholtz resonator tuned around 300Hz. This resonator permits to absorb the resonance modes with “nasal” colorations, quite widespread on the bookshelf loudspeakers because it’s linked with their proportions. The result is a woofer/mid-bass with very high clarity.
A dedicated Utopia stand is of course available. Heavy (19.0 kg) and matching the loudspeaker design (high-gloss black lacquer, painted aluminium pole, filled with sand), it’s totally interdependent with Diablo Utopia with four bolts mounted on metallic plates.
Like the Grande Utopia EM, Scala and Diablo Utopia are first available entirely in black lacquer, or with the side panels in red (Imperial Red finish) or grey (Warm Grey finish).
