The Legend comes in good fully working condition, although there are sign of wear commensurate with age – please see photographs, and fitted with a Linn Basik LV-X Tonearm. Please note this turntable package comes with a Nagaoka MP110 Cartridge fitted but as we have no knowledge of its exact age or amount of wear it is not covered in our warranty.
Acoustic Research Said….
Our turntables are belt driven and offer 33½ and 45 rpm speeds, changed simply by manually moving the belt. Each comes with a non-resonant acrylic dust cover.
The Legend has a solid MDF plinth covered with real wood veneer. It achieves a sonic performance comparable to the very finest Audiophile turntables available at any price and is elegant enough for the most sophisticated of settings.
Our turntable can be fitted with alternative tone arms, using optional AR adaptors but we designed the AR tone arms to work optimally with the Legend. Their rigid, low-resonance construction, close tolerance, play-free bearings and lockable counterweight ensure minimal losses and a fine sound.
So, what can you expect from an AR Legend turntable? Music, clear, tuneful, and enjoyable. Nothing more, nothing less. Our turntables reveal a clarity of bass and a finely-focused yet natural sound that allows you to follow the music with ease.
At AR we put the same care into building all our products, ensuring that your musical enjoyment will continue for a long time to come.
Over twenty years ago, Acoustic Research revolutionised record players by designing our own. It was the world’s first belt driven suspended-subchassis turntable and sounded better than others, long before the hi-fi fraternity appreciated such things.
Years ahead of its time, in concept and performance, it formed the model which was to be emulated the world over.
And AR’s solutions still hold true.
That’s why, when we re-designed and re-launched our turntable as the Legend it became an instant success with Audio critics the world over.
But it’s not magic which makes the unique AR sound. That’s down to engineering – Acoustic Research style.
We place a lot of emphasis on listening tests to achieve optimum reproduction of music’s timbres, rhythms, textures and nuances. In short, we aimed for listener involvement and satisfaction. Though we place a high priority on listening tests we use the very latest digital test equipment to track down and eliminate any unwanted vibrations which can interfere with the music.
Our current turntables work on the same principles. They incorporate high-quality components: heavy, cast, two-piece platters for speed stability, close-tolerance main bearings for overall sound precision and bass clarity and carefully designed, slightly different, suspension systems to eliminate the music muddling effects of acoustic feedback.

Linn Said….
The Linn Basik LV-X was designed according to many of the same criteria as the Linn Ittok LV-II. The Basik arm is intended to provide substantially better performance than has heretofore been available in a moderately priced tonearm, and will outperform arms which are vastly more expensive.
The Basik arms incorporate full gimbal ball bearings, and a large diameter straight arm tube. The Basik Plus utilizes a non-detachable headshell. The Basik LV-X incorporates a special detachable headshell which uses a C-clamping arrangement. This approach allows the headshell junction to be almost as rigid as a non-detachable type, at the cost of a slight increase of the effective mass of the arm.
Specifications:
Effective Mass: 12 g
Tracking Force: 0 to 3 g
Cartridge Weight: 2 to 10 g
Effective Length: 230 mm
Overhang: 18 mm
Mounting Distance: 211 mm
