The Acoustic Energy AE1 was designed by Phil Jones and first launched in 1988 and quickly set new industry standards in audio performance from a compact enclosure. Using relatively thick MDF cabinet walls and using up to the minute drive units it helped buck the trend of the larger speakers of the time. Our examples of this classic speaker are the later Signature models, but there is quite a few cosmetic blemishes mainly to one speaker – please see photographs. They will be supplied in original factory packaging, along with our usual 3 month warranty.

The network section has been newly designed with high-quality elements. Premium grade high-pressure polypropylene capacitors and glass-like enamel winding resistors are used, and pure silver cables are used for internal wiring.
In addition, the pair matching of the left and right channels has an error of less than 0.25 dB.
The enclosure uses a unique sound absorber system with a newly developed porous material with high internal loss and high rigidity attached to the inner wall to increase the strength, effectively cancel standing waves and increase the weight by approximately 40%.
The exterior has a piano rosewood finish with a clear lacquer.
A 9 cm cone type woofer is installed in the low range. The diaphragm is made of aluminium alloy and has a three layer structure with electrolytic coating on both sides. This realizes both high rigidity and necessary internal loss in spite of its light weight. The voice coil also functions as a heat sink, suppressing the temperature rise of the voice coil and providing excellent linearity for large input.
A 2.5 cm hard-domed tweeter is installed in the high range. A magnesium alloy dome is used for the diaphragm, and an aluminium voice coil plated with copper is directly heat-fused to the dome to improve the input resistance and realize excellent high-frequency reproduction.
