Here we have a Majik Aktiv system from Scottish company Linn. With two Majik 4100 power amplifiers both fitted with Aktiv boards and a pair of Majik 140 floorstanding loudspeakers this system is designed to get the very best out of each of the components. The units are all in fully working condition whilst cosmetically there are a few blemishes especially one of the speaker bases which is quite heavily marked. The upside being that because they are black, they will be easily improved with a little TLC. Every item will be carefully packaged and comes with our standard three month warranty.

Majik 140 Floorstanding Loudspeaker
Majik 140 is a 4-way floorstanding loudspeaker which delivers exceptional musical performance and features Linn’s 2K driver array – an evolution of the array technology found in Linn’s highest performing loudspeakers. This technology houses the high-frequency drive-units in a dedicated cast alloy chassis, to create a wonderfully clean and pure high frequency reproduction. The unique design of the 2K driver array provides even dispersion for exceptional performance, regardless of where the loudspeakers are placed in a room.
Even higher levels of performance can be easily achieved by simply bi-wiring through to fully Aktiv configuration.
Solid metal upgrade stands are available to purchase separately to provide improved stability for even higher audio performance. An optional 3⁄4 length grille is also available. The grille uses Linn’s invisible, flush fitting “Sekrit-Fastener” fixing method, as used for the Akurate loudspeaker.

The Majik 4100 power amplifier is the latest product to take advantage of more than three decades of Linn design innovation and technological advancement in the name of creating the most musical hi-fi products.
The power amplifier’s task is to take the small signal from the preamplifier and boost it to a level that allows it to drive the loudspeakers. A tremendous amount of care and attention has gone into the design of this extraordinary
amplifier to ensure that the music signal remains pure and uncoloured during amplification. Linn understands the importance of this process and has spent many years refining it. The Majik 4100 is evidence of that.
The Chakra topology uses an array of large bi-polar transistors as ‘boosters’ around a monolithic (single chip) amplifier IC (integrated circuit). Linn’s execution of the monolithic to bi-polar transition is unique, and a patent application for the design has been registered.
When output current is less than a few amps, all the power output comes from the monolithic IC, maximising the speed and linear properties of this design. At higher output currents the bi-polar transistors provide the majority of the output current, leaving the monolithic to operate well within its capability and able to correct any error instantaneously.
The topology is very compact, reducing the circuit area and length of the signal path and is also highly efficient, producing much less heat than traditional designs.
A ‘switch mode’ power supply (SMPS) is incorporated into all Majik models. SMPS is an electronic power supply which converts and regulates the incoming mains voltage, and also provides the internal audio circuitry with excellent electrical isolation from the outside world. The SMPS replaces the bulky, heavy and noisy transformer, as well as a number of other sizeable components.
The major benefits of SMPS over conventional power supplies include: small size, high efficiency, fast response, high mains input tolerance, good load tolerance, low acoustic noise and, with its much reduced material use, environmental friendliness.
Also, SMPS does not emit distortion into the local mains supply, as conventional large power supplies tend to do and if you upgrade from an amplifier with a conventional power supply to the Majik amplifier, aside from the benefits of the improved amplification, the sound of your entire system will almost certainly improve as a result of the cleaner mains supply.
Standard ‘passive’ crossovers are driven by the audio signal itself and so some of the signal is effectively lost. Aktiv crossovers are powered by the SMPS (see above) and therefore much more of the audio signal is delivered to the loudspeaker. They are also able to exert a much greater degree of control over the signal and these qualities
combine to provide a significant improvement in sonic performance over standard operation.
