Armstrong 625 FM Receiver

Here we have a well-regarded vintage Armstrong 625 FM Receiver that unfortunately has a few problems, particularly with its capacitors. To us it is beyond economic repair but it would certainly be an excellent source of spares. The unit itself is in pretty good cosmetic condition and with a little TLC could certainly look better. It has its original box and is being sold as seen, so no returns please!

It would be fair to say that quite a few radio listeners find themselves tuned exclusively to the FM wavebands these days-and could therefore cheerfully save the extra expense of buying a stereo system which has AM facilities as well. The Armstrong 625 is for them.
Since its introduction in 1973, the 625 in common with the rest of Armstrong’s Series 600 has undergone modifications and additions – all in keeping with Armstrong’s policy of maintaining what we believe is the most competitive range of hi-fi stereo equipment on the market.
Five years in the developing (with a host of additions and improvements since the launch of Series 600 in 1973), this amplifier delivers up to 100 watts of continuous sine wave power with negligible distortion and a wide frequency range.
This tremendous reserve of power provides for an unmistakable effortless beauty of sound only obtainable from a few of the world’s top designs.
And when it comes to facilities, there’s precious little lacking: Specially matched rotary controls for volume, bass, treble and balance. Input selection by Armstrong’s new silent form of Electronic Gate switching. Simple, smooth-acting press keys for other controls. Headphones and two-pairs of speakers can be used simultaneously or enjoyed independently.
There are two treble filters (with a ‘slope’ control providing a choice of four characteristics), two choices of pick up sensitivity. And adjustable tape recording outputs ensure easy matching to virtually all types of record player and tape recorder equipment.
The design concept of the Armstrong Series 600 FM tuner section was to achieve a specification very close to the theoretical performance limits of the FM broadcasting system.

I.F. Filters, integrated circuits and a phase locked loop stereo decoder all combine to give ultra-high sensitivity and selectivity, superb separation – and almost unmeasurable distortion.
On an increasingly crowded FM tuning band, individual stations can be selected with ease (six of your favourite FM stations can easily be pre-set on the 625) and, with a suitable high-gain aerial, extremely long distance reception is possible.
